Senior Tax Associate
Mr. Shaw is a Senior Tax Associate in the Advanced Planning & Family Office Practice Group at Handler Law, LLP. He practices primarily in the areas of taxation, estate planning and commercial law. Mr. Shaw’s experience has included tax compliance, business structure planning, tax planning, estate and gift tax, trusts, wills, estate planning and charitable planning. He has represented businesses and individuals in federal and state tax examinations and controversies. Mr. Shaw also has extensive experience in tax compliance for ultra-high net worth clients, their family offices and their closely held businesses. He has worked extensively on the creation and execution of estate and tax minimization strategies for family offices and family businesses. He also has experience in international taxation as well as in the real estate, insurance, service and manufacturing industries. In addition, Mr. Shaw has performed pro-bono work, including tax compliance, wills and powers of attorney for low-income taxpayers and looks forward to opportunities to continue assisting the community.
Mr. Shaw’s previous work experience includes public accounting, tax analysis, tax planning and estate planning. Prior to joining Handler Law, LLP, Mr. Shaw worked as an Attorney, Tax Associate for a tax and accounting firm as well as a Tax Analyst for a large public company; most recently as an estate planning attorney.
Mr. Shaw received his Juris Doctorate Degree from the Maurer School of Law at Indiana University-Bloomington, where he received a merit scholarship. He received his Master of Business Administration Degree from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University-Bloomington where he received a merit scholarship and served as a Graduate Assistant. In addition, Mr. Shaw earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance with honors from Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan. Mr. Shaw is licensed to practice law in Illinois.
